Scope

Design, Supply, Install and Commission the upgrade of 60 Protection relays, including IEC61850 Power Management System and Network.

Qld Children’s Hospital (formerly known as Lady Cilento) wished to upgrade the site’s existing HV Protection and Controls System from A Modbus-based Monitoring only design, to an IEC61850 full Power Management solution, including Monitoring and Control. The immediate challenge for Voltex, was to project manage the operation of both existing and new systems side by side for the duration of the upgrade.

Added to this, the criticality of hospital power supplies required an absolute minimum risk of unintended intertrips during testing, and adherence to the planned outage times and restoration of feeders under access. Voltex customised test laboratory at our engineering office provided a capacity for complete end to end FAT to ensure performance upon the completion of each panel. We designed complete new LV compartment doors, complete with fitted relays and pre-tested wiring looms, to minimise installation time and risk of connection errors.
